Friday 17th February 2023, ARCOS Founder & CEO Dr Sam Kanyamibwa, attended the reception hosted by His Majesty the King Charles III at Buckingham Palace in support of action on global biodiversity.
His Majesty met a number of CEOs who are members of the Sustainable Markets Initiative, as well as ministers from international governments and indigenous representatives. For many years, The King Charles has been dedicating his efforts for the fight against climate change and biodiversity loss. In that context, His Majesty established the Circular Bioeconomy Alliance (CBA)— under his Sustainable Markets Initiative-to accelerate the transition to a circular bioeconomy aiming to place nature and people at the heart of a global circular bioeconomy.
“It is always a special moment meeting again His Majesty. It was momentous joining other CEOs members of the Sustainable Markets Initiative, Ministers, community representative, Marc Palihi together with Stephane Hallaire (Director, European Forest Institute & Chair of the Circular Bioeconomy Alliance and the President of Reforest’Action and International Coordinator of Living Lab, respectively) among others, to reiterate our commitment towards the conservation of the global biodiversity”. said Dr Sam Kanyamibwa, ARCOS Founder & CEO.
Since 15th June 2022, ARCOS became a member of the CBA, with the aim to facilitate the integration of a circular bioeconomy in its focal landscapes. ARCOS’ approach in landscape restoration involves communities through a long-term partnership cemented by the Sustainability Agreement using an integrated approach to restore degraded ecosystems and enhance human well-being.
The event catalyzed action to deliver the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework agreed at the recent #COP15.
Back in June 2022, on his visit to Rwanda for the occasion of The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), His Majesty paid a visit to one of ARCOS’ sites to witness a collaborative landscape restoration for climate resilience in Rwanda. Read more
