Dr. Jane Bemigisha





Dr. Bemigisha contributes to national, regional and international environment protection and conservation, notably, the development of the State of Water Resources Basin Report and Atlas for Victoria Water Management Zone (Analysis of Data into Information); team leader, preparation of the National State of Environment Reports (NSOERs) for Uganda 2014 and 2016; co-team leader Strategic Environmental Assessment of oil and gas activities in the Albertine Graben of Uganda and handling assessment of environmental and oil and gas policies, plans and programmes; legal and institutional framework and capacity; and Spatial planning/Land use. She has been programme manager for the Africa Hub of International Foundation for Science supporting young African scientists on biological and water resources research and managed a conservation programme in Northern Uganda for Wildlife Conservation Society. She has until October 2016 been Coordinator Africa Chapter of International Association of Landscape Ecologists (IALE); Founder/Chair, Gender in Climate Change and African Agriculture (GECCAA) think tank;  Member expert group on the development of the African Strategy on climate change 2011- 2014; Member, UNEP Community of Practice – Global Environment Outlook (GEO) 6 responsible for environmental assessments and preparation/review of Environment Outlooks and serving as Vice co-Chair of the GEO 6 process 2016 - 2019; she has served as member Group on Earth Observation- Biodiversity Observation Network (GEO-BON) handling ecosystems change, serving on task team ID-01 Advancing global earth observation systems of systems (GEOSS) Data Sharing Principles  handling GEOSS user engagement plan and CL-01 Climate Information for Adaptation. She is participating in GEO as a member for AFRIGEOSS – coordinating initiative aiming to strengthen the link between the current GEO activities with existing capabilities and initiatives in Africa and working to support countries and organization’s capacity to access and leverage on-going bilateral and multilateral Earth Observation -based initiatives across Africa.
